The Shamrock Model
Shamrock Organization is a term coined by by Irish management author Charles Handy in back 1989 to describe the companies of the future.
The shamrock leaf's shape represents an organization with three types of workforce:
- Leaf one - a core of qualified professionals. The group defines the core competence of the organization and what its line of business.
- Leaf two - contracted specialists in non-core areas. This also comprises the consultants and outsourcing firms providing support services to the companies.
- Leaf three, seasonal and temporary workers to fill the gaps.
